What Is Making My Paint Fade?
September 29, 2016How to Properly Paint Trim
October 13, 2016Whether you choose to paint your walls yourself or hire a professional, the type of paint you use can greatly contribute towards the final look of your room. You want to paint your walls with the correct type of paint for the space. But, painting can be dangerous if you fail to take the necessary precautions. So, here are few important safety considerations while painting your space.
Provide proper ventilation
Occupying a freshly painted room causes dizziness. So make sure you properly ventilate the painted area by opening all the doors and windows. If you think that the available ventilation is inadequate then use a fan, wear a mask and work for short periods only.
Handle solvent-based product carefully
All organic-based solvents are hazardous to your health and come with particular safety labels. Read labels and take the required precautions while storing and using them. For example, some solvents are highly flammable and should be stored in prescribed low temperatures. Follow the labels instructions for disposal as well.
Wear safety equipment
It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Wearing appropriate safety equipment is the best way to protect yourself while painting. If you are sanding, wear safety goggles and a dust mask. While using cleansers or strippers or any chemical solutions you should wear gloves, a mask and safety goggles. These simple measures will ensure you’re safe.
Keep your paint away from heat or electrical sources
Paints are extremely flammable. So, do not smoke or use an open heat source or spark- producing tools in the painting area. If you are painting or working near any electrical outlets, make sure you cover them with painter’s tape and turn off the power supply to the space before you begin.
Step ladder safety
Step ladders are an integral yet dangerous part of a paint job. Make sure the ladder is robust enough to handle your weight, has four support points standing in an even area and is not slippery. Also, you have to position your ladder well, wear proper shoes and be careful while using the ladder.
Clean up thoroughly
Clean up at the end of each day. While cleaning up, ensure all potentially risky materials are kept out of the reach of children and pets. You can gather all the toxic-waste in a safe area and take it to a dump site after drying it.
Painting can be an enjoyable process. To complete a mishap-free painting project, make sure you follow all safety precautions.
