Unsure of What to Do to Repair Old Plaster Walls?
August 7, 2017Knowing the Differences in House Paint Sheen
August 25, 2017Decorating walls in your home takes time and an understanding of the space you’re working with. Paint is certainly one way to enhance the walls, but using both paint and wallpaper can create a really unique look.
In an older, more traditional home, wallpaper can be used for dramatic effect. For instance, if you live in a colonial home that has chair rail moldings, one effect is to put wallpaper above the chair rail moldings and a coordinating paint color below them. Painting the ceiling and wallpapering the walls can also make the room stand out.
The bedroom is another great place to combine paint and wallpaper. For dramatic effect, you can paint the walls but make the wall where your headboard is an accent wall and cover it with wallpaper while using a neutral paint color for the remaining walls.
You can create a design that really stands out and accentuates furniture in any size room. You can also choose a bold color for the accent wall while using simple wallpaper for the other three sides. If your room is small, be sure to choose wallpaper that is more simplistic and if your room is dark, pick wallpaper with a dark background.
When using paint and wallpaper together, it’s important to keep in mind the properties of each. A paint color that is too strong will overpower any wallpaper. Choose paint and wallpaper that will complement each other in such a way that feels natural but allows both paper and paint to shine.
